The School of Social Work participated in the College of Arts and Sciences' Step into Scrubs: Interactive Clinical Skills & Health Career Expo on Oct. 14 to highlight the vital role of social workers in health care.

Vickie Lynn, PhD, MPH, MSW, assistant professor of instruction; Brittany Peters, PhD, LCSW, MCAP, QS, assistant professor of instruction; Valentina Arcila, academic program specialist; Sandra Accilien, a student in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program; and alumna Lianna Hernandez, MSW, RCSWI, represented the school, engaging with students throughout the day.

At the Social Work table, participants took part in the "Wheel of Care" activity — a hands-on demonstration that invited students to spin a wheel inspired by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Eight Dimensions of Wellness. This activity allowed students to explore how social workers address each area of well-being through advocacy, resource coordination, and clinical practice.

Students learned how social workers use a holistic, person-centered approach to promote wellness across emotional, physical, spiritual, and social domains. The team also distributed educational handouts highlighting the Eight Dimensions of Wellness and provided examples of community resources.

This interactive experience sparked meaningful conversations about the diversity of social work practice and reinforced the idea that social workers are an integral part of health care.
