RESEARCH

The bacterial cell envelope is vital for bacterial cell integrity, growth and adaptation to their living environment. Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important human pathogens, which can cause various infections ranging from skin and soft tissue infections to life-threatening sepsis. With a long-term research interest in staphylococcal biology and pathogenesis, our lab focuses on studying the cell envelope of S. aureus. We are interested in understanding (a) the dynamics of cell envelope assembly during bacterial growth and cell division, and (b) functions of cell envelope components in bacterial pathogenesis, adaptation and survival in the host. We use a variety of experimental approaches such as genetics, microscopy, biochemistry as well as animal models. The understanding of these basic scientific questions will lead to novel therapeutics to combat bacterial infections.

We welcome talented students or lab technicians to join our lab. If you are interested, contact me please!
